This is a selection of various branding cases over the last several years. The first five slides are of the Harvard Library Lab project, which was a program that micro funded 50 library science related projects. They needed a logo to encompass the entire endeavor and it was almost immediately obvious that the double Ls are perfect as brackets.

Following are logos for Norton One, Moving Target Boston (a dance company), and Day Watch, a dark fantasy action movie from 2006.

I had the pleasure of designing the international website for Django Unchained. Big round of applause to Noah Young and Lisa Yu at Jetset! The first slide in this presentation is an animation I made to guide the dev team.

Over the last two years, I have had the pleasure of giving several lectures and workshops at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. The topics range from basic design principles (layout, composition, typography, color) to printed / online portfolios, to Photoshop-based environmental effects and compositing.

It was a wonderful (and highly educational!) experience for me.

This set of iPhone/iPad applications was part of a large new campaign / brand reorientation pitch by ZAAZ. The applications includes facebook/twitter powered statistics for the many flavors of Revlon products, videos of women doing outstanding things, information about variety of charitable events, and a virtual makeup applicator.

Finally, a cross promotional component allows users to pair makeup with matching clothing and accessories (within select locations, like Target) via an augmented reality interface.

This is a set of infographics for Microsoft to communicate their brand and consumer strategies. The first is for the release of Office 2010 for Mac, and the subsequent for Bing.

CNNMoney was in need of an overhaul, focusing on clarity, hierarchy, structure, and cohesion. This was one of our proposals, and featured a latest news audio/video/market tracker dashboard at the top. They ended up taking an even simpler direction (perhaps slightly on the plain side), for which I actually wholeheartedly commend them.

Krzysztof Wodiczko is an artist renowned for his large-scale slide and video projections on architectural facades and monuments. War, conflict, trauma, memory, and communication in the public sphere are some of the major themes of his work.

I had the fortune of working with Mr. Wodiczko and Robert Ochshorn on the cover and layout of the book for a show in Paris, May 21 - June 20, 2011. The show is a proposal for a museum to be built around the Arc de Triomphe that would allow visitors a closer look at the Arc, augmented with modern projections/installations about the realities of violent conflict, in order to start a conversation about what it means to monumentalize war.

This goal of this website for the Forest Service is to get kids excited about exploring the forest. Since some of my brightest childhood memories are of camping with my family, it was easy to get into this one. The site explains some of the many activities possible in nature, and gives the visitors a taste with features such as the Forest Snapshot Game, a virtual photography experience.

The goal of this redesign for Entertainment Weekly is to introduce a strong and visually manageable hierarchy to the site, so the viewer can quickly browse and "snack" on the large amount of constantly updating content. This is accomplished with a large feature window, concise lists, large thumbnails for the news and review modules, and a consistent color-coded modular design.

Started by John Legend, the Show Me Campaign is a non profit organization working to improve the state of the public education system in the United States.
The Show Me Education site would enable the public to locate, rate, and follow any education related public officials. I feel this site will particularly shine within the platform created for conversations between the public and candidate on a per-issue basis.

Since Jonah Hill's character has to safely deliver party animal rocker Aldous Snow from London to Los Angeles, via New York and Vegas, the main website is a wide parallax scrolling experience. In addition to this, we also created a fictional band website for Infant Sorrow, filled with appropriately funny biography, discography, and merchandize (all created by the witty minds at Jetset).

Finally, we threw in a working concept for a Puff Daddy "chomps his own head" iPhone game, which reflected what I quite frankly think is one of the funniest jokes in cinema history.

Harley Davidson wanted to give their Facebook fans the ability to upload and share their personal bike-related history to a timeline, while simultaneously showcasing significant events in the Harley Davidson culture. They asked for a machine style interface which was a lot of fun to execute.

I was asked to do the live visuals for the annual Harvard Graduate School of Design ball, and it was thrilling! This was my first foray into the world of live visuals.

What does Goodness MFG do? Manufacture goodness, that's what! I'm a fan of a lot of work by this advertising agency, particularly their campaigns for Mini Cooper, Slim Jim, and Miller. The concept here is that their logo, along with gears, literally manufactures boxes of goodness which then serve as containers for the content, all animated in 3d.

This was a pitch for a new set of wireless peripherals that Sony had recently announced. The site concept features an interactive room/peripheral configurator for the products, after which the site verbally rates the user's audiophile status. All I had to work with was a few catalog photos of the products, so it was up to me to create the look and 3d environment. I had the pleasure of working with David Buckley on a very tight timeline, and with Mike Johnson on the motion test.

Dragon Age: Origins is a rich, complex gaming experience that was many years in the making. So besides the prerequisite eye-candy, it was necessary for the site to accomodate a large amount of character profiles, news, community forums, and other content.

With minimal assets, and prior to the design of the keyart, I designed several comps for The Hangover website, ranging from "Vegas at night" to "light hearted comedy."

Jetset secured the project.

Let Fury Have the Hour is a feature-length documentary that investigates the movement of World Citizenship through the music and cultural activism of Joe Strummer, The Clash, and moden day creatives as they advance this movement throughout the world.

Shepard Fairey designed the poster that is I distressed for the background "wall."

It's always enjoyable to market a good movie. Besides the main movie site, I designed and art directed the creation of two additional viral sites, one for Jason Schwartzman's fictional show, Yo Teach, which was hosted by nbc.com as if a real tv show, and included clips and photos from the show, and another site for Adam Sandler's movie alter ego, George Simmons.

A big hands up to Patrick and Russel (owners and masterminds at Jetset) for the concepts.

This site won a 2008 Key Art Award - congratulations to my teammates and everyone at Real Pie. I was very happy to design this site, and in turn, lend a hand marketing the winner of the Best Movie Oscar title.

This was an exciting website comp which I designed almost half a year before the creation of the key art, where I was free to build scenes that reflected what I imagined while reading the script.

My first encounter with the movie poster was in Japan half a year later (third slide), and I couldn't help but wonder if it had been somehow inspired by my homepage design.

This site comp for the Juno website is my effort towards an indie/hand-drawn design. I also had a fun time writing the "diary" text and conceptualizing the logo, where the flower in the U symbolizes her pregnancy.

This movie is based on the true life and work of Harvey Milk, a 70s gay rights activist and politician in San Francisco. The studio wanted to stay away from any overtly polical imagery (i.e. stars and stripes), so I went for a bold look reminiscent of a people's movement.

My Name M is a group of four musicians who score film and television. They had no visual direction in mind - all they asked for is to make it unique, so I was free to do whatever I wanted. I designed this while traveling through Japan, and it was a refreshingly delicate project after my work for No Country.

This site comp for the Heartbreak Kid was a throwback to 50s/60s poster design by the likes of Saul Bass, but to be animated in a contemporary way with a camera that flies between the characters, words, and content.

This slideshow is a compilation of past favorites - pitches and realized projects - that are oldies but goodies. And for the voracious viewer, there are a few satisfying tasty bits to be found.
